Refs would help a lot.  Never feel to proud to use them.  If anything, draw your own!  Then all the work is yours!

As for the creases, there are a few ways to deal with this.  You can double click the object and turn up the "smooth angle".  This is the angle at which things will be drawn smooth.  So if the angle between two faces is less than 45 when it's set to 45, it will be drawn sharp.  You can turn it all the way up to 180.
The second way is to up the subdivision level.  This will add more faces and make things be slower though, which may not be good at times.  So feel free to use a combination of both, just do what is best for you.

Like hihosilver said. Also I notice the strecthed skin at the eyes, its like you used the "Extrude Faces" tool for the eyes, this makes it look very unrealistic. If I was you this is how I would make a face, I would start with an N-Gon (To get the best results). I have a tutorial here somewhere...Wait a tic, let me find it.

Yeah......a 6 sided N-gon with all the faces joined, then... "incessed?" inward with the middle face deleted.

That's how I always start.

ok, first of all. you got a pretty ok start here. but you got to think what shapes a head has. even though it is manga, it is anatomically correct, when it comes to the shape of the head.

a head is made out of a ball, and a cone. At this point, yours look more like a bean.

Here , i drew you an image to explain a bit more:

Though this makes the head look really big, but when the hair is on, you will see it is correct.
Here is another one of my drawings with hair:

If you get the shape of the head to look more like this, i think the whole model would look better, but hey.. that's just me.
(ps: sorry for my lousy manga drawing, it was just to show an example xD)

Nice start inapp73. The bottom pic looks a bit like that dude from Silence of the Lambs or "The Gimp" from Pulp Fiction. Lol

Ref images can be huge help.

Nasty subdivisions, I suggest using textures. Those jagged angles will go away.

Ooorr.. lower the subdivisions.
