Nobody is necessarily saying that Anim8or is the best choice.  Though you shouldn't be so quick to say 3ds max is either.  Sure, since it's a big commercial program it will be the best choice for some things, but it's all a matter of personal preference.
Instead of having an argument over "which program is better" which will never end well,
let's just agree that it's all a matter of personal preference.  Some people enjoy Anim8or more for it's simplicity and quick-and-easy methods, while 3ds max has many more possibilities and does make many things easier as well.
This kind of argument is exactly like a "which OS is better" argument.  Remember, it's all a matter of personal preference.
