Steven, I hate like all get out to have to report this but Animator is exhibiting some less than optimum behaviors.
1) Anim8or flat out crashed - no error message, no nothing just popped like a soap bubble with even less trace - while I was trying to convert part of a mesh into a spline. This is the 2nd it has quit like that. The first time was while I was trying to build a spline to lathe. I was laying in segments, misplaced one, did a quick undo and it died. No warning either time.
2) I'm having problems generating a spline from a part of a mesh using the following procedure:
a) I generate a cylinder with the desired number of longitudinal sections to make a nice round shape and position it to use the offset for lathing.
b) I reduce that cylinder to a single edge/point loop
c) I (try to) convert the result into a spline.
d) Then I lathe that with the number of steps to make a decently smooth result.
Half the time it seems to accept the command (the menu item is not greyed out) but no spline appears. I have discovered that I need to be in point mode to do the conversion but it doesn't seem to matter. Sometimes the spline appears, sometimes it doesn't and I can find no reliable way to make it go. Please note that I have seen the gentle hints (error messages) about closed paths etc. The problem happens without any error message. The "convert to spline" option is available in the menu dropdown, I select it and nothing happens. Perplexing.
3) The big thing is Anim8or lost several hours of work. Poof! I had everything saved (doing that religiously now) and went into the scene creator to compose a shot of what I had done. I composed the shot I wanted, rendered it and saved the render. When I pulled the render up in PSE I realized I hadn't changed the image size. So I went back into Ani to recompose the shot with an eye towards saving it as a larger image. Only work I did and saved (one object plus the global materials I made up before even starting any objects) before the crash were there. I remember what I did to get there and can easily recreate the work and in fairly quick time. It just hurt like heck to lose the work. You know?
Anyhow, Mr. G, I figure I better let you know about the issues I'm having most especially Anim8or just quitting on me. It did that once before while I was trying to build a spline from segments. Sometimes I seem to have a knack for making software misbehave. I certainly wasn't trying to make it act up. Please accept my apologies. I would have taken this private channel via email but figured that if I'm seeing this somebody else might have seen it also. If there is some sort of error logging or debug mode I can turn on I'll be happy to do so and pass along any files generated via email. I've heard that, if you're part of the process, if you are not part of the solution then you are part of the problem. As a user I am part of the process. As a retired test analyst, I have the knowledge and experience to help if needed.
