Hello, I'm new to anim8or and to the forum.
I've got what must be an easy problem but I can't seem to figure it out. 
I'm trying to make a face so I click on Wireframe, object/ point edit, edge select, add edge. Then I hold down the shift key and draw 4 lines in the effort to make a square. But instead of a square that I can fill holes on to make it a face, I  have 4 distinct lines that are not joined at the points.  Every tutorial I've looked at shows this just falling together bit I can't get it to work.

Are you holding down shift for each line?

Only hold the shift key down for the first edge.

Holding down shift will create a new point AND a new solid. You cannot join points from one solid to another (unless you click on join solids but you need both solids to have polygons to be able to select them both).
