About spam

I have noticed that a lot of new users are or spambots or just "sick" people :D. And you can figuer it out by just looking at their profile : there is always a link to a site ( products e.t., no a CG site ). So, i think it whould be better, ofcourse if it can be done, when new users register not to allow them to add a link in their profile. Then, after they will be some time on forum , they can add if they want ( site like animanon ) ???

yeah, but if they couldn't list the site, how would we know if it's a spambot or not?

Cori, if they couldn't list their site they would not complete the registration.
It's a bot and it looks for particular words in a registration form to match with the info it carries to complete the form.

Also, another give away that it's a bot is the dumb, most often totally unrelated, forum post that it makes.

On another forum, we have a "Spambot Alert!" thread so members can "alert" the moderators of spambots as soon as they register. I have a bookmark of the members list and I use it to go the forum, and check each new member, and then I post and "alert" them. ;)

Perhaps we could somehow do that here?
But anyway, I know, spambots are really kicking up lately, and I don't understand why..

yeah, lynn, but I registered just fine without putting a website down.  I just later put the link to my youtube channel so I would have something

Its an optional field, the point is that if they couldn't do it, they wouldn't complete registration, as that is their sole purpose.
