aww, but ive already got sum fancy stairs and a chandaleir with over 10800 faces XD
ill just keep the chandaleir and work on a new house for ya, anything in particular that your wanting? my 'doin what i want' tends to end up like the chandaleir: realy cool but WAY to many faces. its cause i go "hmm, thats cool... but now its even cooler!" and then i repeat :p even if you have to tell me what NOT to make, tell me something, its hard to give you what you want without any guidelines.
oh and ill post a pik of my 10k collection of spikes and bars later :p

ah, maybe I am getting your struggle with the imagery and all... It's just that something about remote Antarctic island and big, glorious mansion don't quite work in my mind's eye ;)

A few pics to go with the others...

I thought you might like that last pic... Now, though, I might have some really interesting stuff for ya to chew on when this little whaling base is complete...ish

Well, I've been experimenting with textures... I know I haven't shown much, but here... I worked on a rust with bumpmap (all created from scratch using GIMP)

Once I get it reworked a bit, it'll be going on some of those all metal rusting tanks, and other things.

Well, it's just a first run at some light attempts at making a rust texture... I have some ideas for making the stuff more as you say... but here's what I made and used.

I plan to have some darkened streaks and such to accent and all.

EDIT: did some bigger area rust maps (400x400 and 800x800) and got the basic rust tank in order I think.  Now to get some detail staining, etc...

Just eyeing the rust on my "better" monitor... and yeeeshhhhh that rust color looks a lot oranger (new word)/redder than on my other... so I will have to work on that.

Blaze, that sounds cool.  If you make the whale skeleton in parts, the bones can be used whole, or in pieces, and be more flexible in their application, right?

EDIT:
Putting a bit more into the rusty tank look... Am going to have to eye the color on the other PC when I get home because I am pretty sure it's no better on this render, but gets the impression of what I'm working toward.

Well, my guess is... being a whaling station, that the tanks contained whale oil, possibly some held ship fuel? After all, being 1000s of miles from civilization, would need a good fueling spot.

Per images of the real station...

Hey, for the not quite real effect, I think I got it down texture-wise... though I do have to get home to my tower PC to see how the color really looks. Here it has a great rust-hue, but I've learned that isn't always what the rest of the world sees.

hey I am  lazy I just google rust images and stick a photo on. How slack is that?. How about a bit of specular reflection? You get it on some parts of rust. I have it on my computer it is so old ;)
