I find this topic to be rather offensive.. Steve is a very busy man and No, he did most certainly not die. Be patient.

I don't think he's dead. According to his profile, he checked in to read the forum earlier this month. Still, Steve, if you're there, it'd be nice to hear from you - especially if there's any news about Anim8or!

Considering this is a hobby he's doing in his free time, I doubt he appreciates his hobby pestering him when real life takes precedence. Leave it alone and quietly wait for him to come back.

I would also hope that anybody wishing for more from Anim8or had fully utilised all aspects of the current package.  For example, if you are proficient at full organic modelling, expert at rigging and skinning, skilled at morphing, accomplished at walk cycle sequencing, can not only construct complex scenes but render them out using the full gamut of ART renderer functions, have actually animated something instead of just still frames or game elements, and have put some of your work on this site for appraisal, then and only then might you feel justified in wanting more from Anim8or.

Very, very few Anim8ors I am aware of, myself included, have fully explored and mastered all aspects of Anim8or's capability.  Certainly there is a wide range of functions and tweaks that would improve Anim8or, but the latest version is still amazingly powerful for its tiny resource drain and one-man construction, and truly keen animators will be able to fill in the gaps in Anim8or's ability with other software packages, or plain raw talent.  Check out the gallery over there on the left of your screen, if you think you are up to the standard of images on just the first page then maybe you are ready for more!

Rest assured that Anim8or remains a work in progress.  Could I suggest that while Steve prepares the next update, we all continue enjoying this free, fun, challenging piece of software and keep honing our skills.  I believe the current version has more than enough to keep us all challenged for a while yet!

I was wondering the same myself. Not because I'm impatient, (even though I am) but because I was genuinely worried, or was beginning to anyway because of how long its been since we've seen him post anything on the site or post on the forums. if its true that he logged in about a month back, then I assume everything's fine. its still a bit odd though how long its been since he's popped up to say anything. usually he'll answer simple questions about bugs or features or something.

He showed up a couple of times backstage at the moderators board so he's not dead ;) just a busy man.
Have patience.

understandably designing this program is a hobby for him but at the same time a lot of people would look at how far the thing has come and feel like with a few tweaks it could fully rival some programs that cost hundreds of dollars. Over a year of silence on the development side of things is just kinda depressing when you see so much potential in something.

If he's simply moved on to other things, I wish him luck and health, but it'd be nice of him to say it so some of us can stop hoping for those little tweaks to eventually come.

I thin if he were to discontinue working on the program he would let everyone know.  Hopefully his absence simply means he's hard at work on the program.  There are tweaks that would be wonderful to have made, but there is only so much we can do.  Currently I'd learn to explore what he has implemented so far, especially the new raytracer features as they're simply phenomenal, yet I haven't seen enough out of them.  I've only seen perhaps one user really use them in depth.

hopefully this will grab his attention. and im with u guys, im sure he wouldnt just up and leave a huge project like this. im sure he gets alot of pride out of his work. especially cause he did one hell of a job. i was just poking around in the forums and i noticed that he was really active then just fell of the face of the planet. i bet we get annoying sometimes asking for this and that. but i think we are all getting very anxious to see whats next.

but... with that said i think we can lock this topic.
