Forum Activity Level
« on: September 14, 2009, 09:37:28 am »

Hi all,

The forum has been a bit lax lately, not much activity here.  I know there are many reasons for these slack phases like anim8ors being busy in their respective domains, etc., but i feel the challenges should speed up a bit.  The voting process unnecessarily takes a long period of time.  So, I feel, to keep everybodies interest alive, the challenges should run back to back and the next challenge should start irrespective of the voting process of the previous challenge.

I also have a suggestion that still and animation challenges should run simultaneously to enthuse more anim8ors and newer facets such as matte painting and fantasy art should also be included.

This is just my opinion and I hope I am not overlooing anything.

+1 since I dont want to join all challenges, but I neither want to wait very long till the next challenge... and indeed, Im not into anim8ing, so I also agree there should run 2 challenges at once (three weeks total, or completely seperate). Or be able to choose between anim8ing or still image... (it's very noticeable there are a lot more people joining the still image challenges than the anim8ed...)

As for running challenges back to back, we do try our best.  We have a rotation for which moderator creates the next challenge.  Hopefully the next is up soon though!

I believe it's raxx's turn...., isn't it?

But yes we could have more challenges at the same time. But it will be a bit of a chaos. We first need to find out how this will work. One still and one animation challenge in the beginning, maybe later more...

one animation challenge in the beginning,

If you are going to do any more animation challenges then I do suggest to unrestrict the renderer just to the anim8or one
or alternatively make the challenge to at least 28 day.

I think a number of people who do animation would agree with me, until Steve brings in a much faster Renderer.

The forum has been a bit lax lately, not much activity here.

That happens on many web sites in the Summer, with the good weather people are enjoying themselves more outdoors and there are the holidays and travel.

It will pick up soon though with the days shortening and getting colder, people back to work/school, i.e. "back to normal"  ;D

Sorry, I have to disagree here ^^'

Animation contests should only focus on the animation quality, not the model. That could lead to biases towards better modelers over better animators. Maybe only create models as complex as your animation requires. ^^ That way you minimize render times, but maximize emphasis on animation. If your animation is complex enough to require such a complex model, then case-specific deadline extensions, imo, are appropriate.

Just my opinion though. :)
