How would I make a shape like that that's kind of like a cylinder so its round but shaped like that?

i would just make a primitive N-gon, fil, select the outer edges, extrude them just a little and then delete the innerlines/points. Then convert to subdivided.

Actually, all you need to do is create a Sphere, then use Non-Uniform scale.

In Left view, make a cylinder that runs straight from left to right. Go to front view, select the cylinder and go to Build->Convert to mesh. Select the non-uniform scale button and then scale it whichever way you need to. That's it. If you're wanting an ellipsoid then do the same thing except with a sphere.
