Perhaps This tutorial can help you a bit.

Not many people will take you step by step through the process of that particular object.  The point of this art is just like drawing, you learn techniques and you can apply that to your own artwork.  There are a lot of techniques in 3d to learn, following tutorials and playing with the program is the best way in my opinion, as well as observing others works and reading about 3d.
