I just downloaded the program. I am a wood turner I make vases, bowls, platters etc... I want to design a funeral urn for our dog but I am having a really hard time understanding how to use the program any pointers?

I have a really expensive piece of wood & don't want to ruin it so I want to make a design & be able to change it to something I like & can use as a template when turning the urn. I am somewhat comp stupid.

Hi Chuck,
first of all read the manual which can be found at the homepage of Anim8or.com, then feel free to ask for any detail if something isn't clear to you. The program isn't difficult to learn, and you'll find good help here.

Try out the egg tutorial located on this site. This may probably help you get started the best. An urn doesn't sound all that difficult to create in 3D, and that tutorial may be all that you need.

That would be really kind of you Chuck, so yes please attach to your post some images of your model and of the finished product. On my side I never saw turning wood, and would be nice to see some snapshot taken while you're turning it, too.

These are 2 "ring bowls" I did for family. The women put the rings on the center post & anything else around the bowl. The bowl is made from "Bubinga" & the finial (center post) is made from "Gabon Ebony"

These are tops to wine bottles for X-Mas for my Brother in law.



When I start to get into "segmenting" I'll be able to do this type of bowls or vases.

Beautiful work and lovely wood textures.

These are all shapes which you can easily lathe in Anim8or, so next time you have an idea for an object just jot it down in 3D for future reference

Amazing works Chuck, very well done.

I like the third one in particular, which I guess was no childplay, inlaying the wood must be a tough work by itself.
