Is there a way to make a video a screensaver? if so what file should it be rendered as?

Guess the best thing to do is look around and see if there are screensaver makers, that use video..

The only other way I guess would be to create a 3d engine

( I did a simple screensaver  like this, to spin an alien model a long while back)

you can probably use a .gif file somehow as a screensaver, search the internet for it. But using a moving screensaver uses RAM, which will slow down you computer. Only if you have a good computer (and not running vista, because this costs alot of RAM), i should use it.

you could search 'Avi to screensaver' on google.

I found a few that looked good, but most of them have a little pause or gap between the end and restart of the video...

If you have flash, you can search for 'SWFlash - Screensaver'
Which can convert your animations into screensavers, I imported my anim8or Avi into it.

You can use .exe's or .scr as screensavers to the most of my knowledge.  I'm sure you can find programs that will export to either one, though .exe may be easiest.
