Lower case "m"
« on: January 17, 2014, 01:29:32 pm »

First, I'm delighted to see active development again! I'm a total failure with Blender, but Anim8or is a delight. I'm already in love with the "mirror bones" feature, and I've also explored the glass, just a little.

I had a reason to do some 3d text yesterday. I noted a problem with the lower case "m." It's not acting right for fill/extrusion. It seems a repeatable error (on my system), and I went back to the earlier version of the program to do what I wanted.

Just registered, today. Hope this hasn't already been mentioned. Steve, you should be feeling a lot of love these days.

I hear ya. Blender is a real mind bender for a lot of us. Caligari Truespace 7.6 is fairly easy on the brain along with Anim8or 3D. I mostly use the old modelside of TS 6.6 and love using both TS and Anim8or. Thanks Steve for creating a simply wonderful modeling application. Leroy.

Thanks, jwalt!

I can reproduce the "m" extrusion problem.  I'll look into it ...

I have a fix for this. Here's a link to the .exe file:

Fixes #098-002 - Text Extrusion - "m" faces aren't filled

http://www.anim8or.com/download/files/animv0981.zip

Let me know if it works for you and I'll update the link on the download page.

Went to the forum and downloaded the fixed version from the link. It seems to work fine. I can now make 3D text with lower case m's that act properly. It was a most memorable moment for me. Most mornings my mail is made up mostly of missives from many communicative comrades, mainly moving of this land mass. It made me mighty merry to have a message meant for me from the man who is the main mover/manager of Anim8or. But it could have waited a while: m's still worked fine in the old version, the old version seems to work quite well with the new version, I doubt many have a pressing need for 3D text, and we hardly ever use m's, anyway.   ;-)  Thanks, Steve!

It was a tricky bug having to do with floating point precision, or rather lack thereof. The code hasn't changed since v0.85 and I still don't know why it works in v0.95 but not v0.98. But the fix is conservative so it should only make things better :)

Thanks for reporting it.
