Importing another A8 file into an existing open file.
« on: July 12, 2012, 06:52:08 pm »

I'm working on a tank model and I want to import another A8 file into the existing one without over writing it. Is this possible? Or is there some other way to get the same thing done? Thanks, Leroy.

When you import another .an8 file into your current one, it will ask if you want to overwrite the model. Hit no. Then you will be asked to rename the object. VOILA! You have successfully imported another .an8 file into your current one.

  • Couldn't ever use Blender or Maya. Anim8or's good.

I actually prefer to even have all the object named differently- then it doesn't have to ask you that because it won't overwrite a file with a different name.

Thanks very much. My tank is actually a game model and I needed to import the weapon hardpoints rather then create them all over again, and now I can do just that. Thanks again, Leroy. One note I might make is that this can not be done in the Object mode, but it seems to work in the Scene mode and I see the imported file listed in the Browser mode as well. Onme other question, can this be done in the Object mode? Thanks, Leroy.

It has generally ALWAYS worked for me in object mode... Although it won't transfer figures, sequences or scenes. I'm assuming you do knnow how to switch betwen objewcts? If so, it should absolutely work, it's never failed for me.

Don't know if this helps you or not, but you can open multiple Anim8or files and if you click
on the 'Window' button you will see them listed. You can copy and paste any objects from one
file to another.

I see them all listed under the Object button. Apparently, the way to combine them is:

Put a check mark on the desired imported objects to display them in the workspace.

Use the select all function then copy.

Now switch back to the desired object to insert them to.

Then use the paste function to insert them all together. Thanks, Leroy.

PS: I guess I was getting confused initially because they're listed as seperate object groups under the Object button rather then all showing up together in the same workspace.
