Huge AVI files

Hi All

Well I was able to get my Robin animated and rendered.  I noticed though that my 3 second movie was 25MB as an AVI.  Any suggestions?

To reduce the file size you could convert it from avi format to mpg forrmat, there are plenty of converter software programs available - some free, some not

I recommend using a DivX codec to to crate your AVI videos.  It has pretty good compression qualities.  I also recommend that you render out all the frames of your Anim8or animations as either bitmap (.bmp) or JPEG (.jpg) images, then using something like VirtualDub to composite the images into a video.  There are a few reasons for doing it this way:
1.  Rendering individual images allows you to pick up where the computer last left off if it crashes for any reason.
2.  You can go back and tweak one or more frames if you need to.
3.  You post-process the frames with various image packages.
4.  You can composite using different codecs and/or frame rates.
5.  Etcetera, etcetera, etcetera...

try render using "ffdshow Video Codec"
the quality is good and file small..

 :)

I use Microsoft Video 1, it seemed the simplest to me

25MB file is not that big in my measure... I work daily on still images that in compressed form have 100-200MB. I even had to send such and bigger files over internet a few times in the past. Uncompressed frames for my 'How things are made in Blender' animation took about 700MB. It was just output rendering in resolution that I wasn't fully happy with (because of tight deadline).
It's typical requirement to have at least 20-30GB of free space if you want to edit full length movie in DVD quality, so with my typical clutter on HD I wouldn't be able to handle it ;) Now consider Blue-ray quality...
So I wouldn't worry at all about the size of your current file. You'll be able to create 10MB file in good quality after a bit of compression.
