Glass effects
« on: December 09, 2008, 06:42:13 pm »

Hulloo - very much a beginner in all this animation lark - but anim8or seems such a breeze to use to get reasonable looking results with minimum effort :)

Anyhoo - my question... I can make transparent materials, but is it possible in anim8or to model the effects that glass can have - such as magnifying glasses, warping / distorting the view of whatever is behind the glass?

If not - please also let me know... will save me scratching a bald-patch on my head while I try to figure it out.

Thankee.

Yeah, it's in the 97d preview version of Anim8or, it's a glass effect called dialectric. If you want a simpler glass effect go to the manual scroll down to #9 (i think it's 9) for materials and then scroll down that to find examples of, copper, brass, rubber, plastic etc. there's also one for glass copy that one in your material editor and put the trans about 0.2 or around there.    -Anim8r

Glass can be made using the new ART ray tracer. Which is build-in the 0.97(d) preview of anim8or. Using the dielectric attribute you can create reflections and refractions like glass has.

Not the best example, but something like this:

EDIT: Added is a test file made by steve showing of the dielectric attribute. Note that attributes only work in the latest versions of anim8or: v0.97.

Or you could try Class>transparent.

Oh well. I'm just glad anim8ors to the point where someone can actually say "yes" to this question.
