Glowing
« on: November 03, 2010, 03:36:42 pm »

So I read the lighting tutorial on how to make things glow, but i'm confused. Are all those "filters" just objects? if so what do I do to them to achieve the glow effect? is there a seperate tutorial on how to make those?

Hi CoriDavis, :)

for maker glow objects you need only:

1- CHANGE the EMISSIVE VALUE to >0 (10, 20, 50 ..etc) high value more brighter.
2- Choose a COLOR.
3- Use BITMAP MASK as ALPHA TEXTURE.

Below my simple tutor for you.

There other modes for make glow but this is a very easy way..

CHANGE VALUES FOR OTHER RESULTS..

I hope then this help you! :)

If you mean the candle tutorial then yes - the thing that was glowing was transparent lens in front of the camera. Other requirement was to have point light in the place of flame.
If you'll have problem controlling these, you can always add glow in the post processing.

Here, this should help. Put a point light inside a sphere with this material and put both wherever you need a glowing light. :)

Ok, thanks, that was what I needed to know.  post processing won't be that easy unless I want to edit every frame of my animation. I don't have (or figured out) how to add moving effects to my videos, which really stinks because I could do a lot with that.

hokay, I made a silly post and it seems to have got deleted as I was going to edit it here... anyway, as I was going to append.... :

TheBlackHole: I tried your technique and am not sure where I am missing the idea... Please check these images and tell me what went wrong? I want to make your technique work, as it implies a 3D ability. The previous suggestion has limits in that it is a 2D effect that would not work well when applied to an animated, 3D video render. I know because I tried similar effects for another project where it worked only so long as the "light texture" area is not competing with other 3D object features.

When you have glow effects in your scene, don't use ART.
