cel shade trick
« on: November 12, 2009, 12:28:10 am »

im thinking ahead again. but here it goes.

i know that the cel shade works only on scanline. and AO works only with raytrace. so i guess my question is... has any1 gotten the cel shade to work without using scanline?

No, ART doesn't support two side faces. So the standard cell shading trick doesn't work with ART. What you can do is render seperate passes:
One cellshaded in scanline and one as an AO pass in ART. Then blend those two renders with a paintprogram.
In photoshop use the overlay or soft light blend, in other programs you will have to find it out yourself how to blend layers.

yea i was planning on rendering seperately. i dont know the program i use that much (gimp) but the way i was thinking about doing it  was make my scene then replace my cel shaded model out with a "green man" or another off color. so when i render the shadows will still b there. then ill render my cel shaded guy with just him on scanline. and when i do that i can just replace my cel shaded guy with the green man. but ill look into the blending and look to find an easier more effective route. thanks for answering.

I will tell you now that using a green man and using chrome key to replace him with your cel shade character will be rough. Only because to lights in anim8or will make different areas on the green man different shades of that color, and that will give you a spotty image in the end. But good luck.
