I need help!
« on: January 25, 2008, 01:40:07 am »

Hi, I've just started using anim8or recently..

And I need somebody to point me in the right direction. ???

The following link has a page with many anim8or files.
On the bottom file of this page there is a file called "Dino Scene"

http://www.geocities.com/anim8ortrade/downloads4.html#Model33

In this file there is a dinosaur figure made up of bones and a single object.
Every time you move a bone it moves the appropriate section of the object.

I am not sure how to do this- as every time I put bones through a single object
the only bone that has any effect on the object at all, is the bone that the object belongs to.

If you could help me, it would be very much appreciated

You need to do what's called "skinning"  it's basically where you tell the bones what part of the object they will effect.
http://www.mp3d.info/Anim8ortutorials/index.html
Go to that website, and follow the 'beginners' tutorial on skinning (#6 called Painted Weights and how they work), then follow the 'intermediate' tutorial on skinning (the first tutorial in the intermediate section).  They should demonstrate how to do it.

Make sure you don't not do it just because it sounded gross.  It's really not that bad, especially using painted weights.  It's a part of the process though if you want to get a good skinned model ready for animation/posing.
