A few hours work.. nowhere near finished, but its a start
« on: November 02, 2008, 09:56:58 am »

so I got this image in my head the other day and thought it was funny. I decided to try to model it out. Im still not happy with the texture of the skin, nor the lily pads, but i still have a lot of playing around to do.. anyways tell me what you think, and suggestions / constructive criticism is always welcome

Nice try.  I liked it.  I feel, a little more work on texturing of the frog gang will do the trick.  The eyes really need to look better and lively, they are too "flat."  I liked the leaf texturing, (they) needs to be little thinner though.

Oh I like frogs, try to remove the upper eyelid, that would give them the same "astonished" look that the insect shows, it might look good.

Keep on, it's a nice still.

You were right, Opening up the eyes a little more did give it more emotion. I didnt want to remove the eyelid compleatly, because I want to show a contrast between the emotion of the fly, and the frogs (you can imagine that they have very different thaughts running through their heads, lol) Here is an update.. still Cant get the skin texture right. If anyone has any suggestions for the texture, or any samples, please let me know, Ive looked all over the internet, and dont have the software, nor experience to create my own.

Yes it all looks more alive now. For the texture, I think that the one your are using for the lower side of the frogs' bodies is good, try to scale it down a bit so that the bumps get smaller, and invert the bumpmap so that they look to stand out instead to seem carved in. As for the textures in general, there are some online libraries on the internet, some links to them have been posted somewhere else in this forum, try making a small search.

Ok here it is starting to look a little closer to what I had originally pictured.. I inverted the bump map on the frogs skin, and you were right, that helped alot. also I rendered it with ART and added a little reflection in the water, and that helped a lot too...

I Love It, great work, just work on the background, the brick wall doesn't seem to fit.

Yeah, Im definately planning on changing the brick wall. I just put it there because I dont like seeing just a black background, It makes it feel like I have A TON of space to fill.. Im just working on getting the right terrain in terranim8or to use as a "river side" and then ill probably figure out something to put back here

i liked the older eyes better, the frogs looked lazy, and that was quite cool, anyway, is this going to end in several toungs in a knot?

Yeah, They were originally meant to be kindof lazy. Here is the picture that I got the idea from (I loved the fly, so i copied it exactly) But I wanted to make the picture original too

I think the eyes on the first render looked better as the frogs looked really dopey and lazy.
Good work.

Mix it up a little - some lazy, some on the hunt and some surprised.
