I prefer the first one. I like the light reflecting off the water dropplets more, and i think the darker contrast makes it look "too perfect" also I like the environment map on the faucet better

Oh btw, That Idea with the tongues would be great, But I wouldnt have any idea where to start in modeling tongues... especially tied in a knot

3
Yeah, They were originally meant to be kindof lazy. Here is the picture that I got the idea from (I loved the fly, so i copied it exactly) But I wanted to make the picture original too

Yeah, Im definately planning on changing the brick wall. I just put it there because I dont like seeing just a black background, It makes it feel like I have A TON of space to fill.. Im just working on getting the right terrain in terranim8or to use as a "river side" and then ill probably figure out something to put back here

Ok here it is starting to look a little closer to what I had originally pictured.. I inverted the bump map on the frogs skin, and you were right, that helped alot. also I rendered it with ART and added a little reflection in the water, and that helped a lot too...

You were right, Opening up the eyes a little more did give it more emotion. I didnt want to remove the eyelid compleatly, because I want to show a contrast between the emotion of the fly, and the frogs (you can imagine that they have very different thaughts running through their heads, lol) Here is an update.. still Cant get the skin texture right. If anyone has any suggestions for the texture, or any samples, please let me know, Ive looked all over the internet, and dont have the software, nor experience to create my own.

so I got this image in my head the other day and thought it was funny. I decided to try to model it out. Im still not happy with the texture of the skin, nor the lily pads, but i still have a lot of playing around to do.. anyways tell me what you think, and suggestions / constructive criticism is always welcome

Wow, I love playing with these attributes! Its amazing how easy doing this is now, when in the past I had to "fake it" to get these effects! Ill post what its done in this project so far as soon as its finished rendering, but im enoying just playing with it on different shapes and seeing how it reacts..

Its really weird starting a new program after learning one. I learned everything on bryce (a graphic design class in highschool) and then started playing with anim8or... ive tried blender, and maya, and both of them overwhelm me every time, and i always just go back to either bryce or anim8or. though, i really need to push through and learn maya if i ever want to get really serious with it I guess.

Thanks you guys for all the help.. I cant wait until .97 comes out as an official release with the ray tracer fully integrated.. I will have to try and play with the attributes functions, and then probably have to adjust my lighting quite a bit afterwards. Thanks for all of the information and the links. I will let you guys know how it comes out, or I need more help..
Bless

Thanks for all of the suggestions. I would love to learn to use the ray tracer, But Im not familiar with any of the terminology of 3d modeling, and so didnt understand really the documentation about it, and the attributes.. is there a simple way to explain how to use these effects, or is it something I just need to read a lot about, and play with.. Also, Im not sure If I did the materials in the "proper" way for them to react correctly with the lighting (such as, when I render with different lighting, The walls in the back usually are very dark, while the bowl looks almost like its glowing, so I just added more lights in front of the background), I pretty much just played with the values until it looked right in the render.

I am pretty unexperienced with anim8or (although ive been playing with it off and on for a few years) but i sat down last night to play, and after a couple of hours, came out with this...
I have tried everything I know to get the material of the faucet right, but just cannot get it to look natural.. here is the original photo that I was modeling from...

any suggestions or Ideas to get the material to match more closely? also, any suggestions for lighting would also be greatly appreaciated, I have tried, and failed, multiple times to get any lighting that i like..
Thanks
todd

also, if anyone has any suggestions for making the base of the bowl look more like in the photo, that would be great!
