I did something similar in this video

So I can give you two suggestions.  I would most recommend that you do not try to do this in anim8or.  I used the cloud effects and some chroma keying in final cut pro.  Wax is free and can probably get you something similar.  http://www.google.com/search?q=wax+2.0&ie=utf-8&oe=utf-8&aq=t&rls=org.mozilla:en-US:official&client=firefox-a

If you want to do it in anim8or you'd need to make a bunch of objects with transparency maps on them.  Then you'd put them together into a ball and animate them to spin a drift and do whatever cloud stuff you want them to do.

Let's not forget that, just because Anim8or can't export an object in .dae format, most other modeling software can import .obj and/or .3ds files!

No one forgot that.  In fact I mentioned it in the second sentence of my first post.

I need to get a figure into .DAE format for a video game developer.  I can do this with a model by exporting as .3ds bringing it into blender and then exporting from there as .DAE.  But when I try to export a figure and bring it into blender it looks like it just exported the model not the skeleton.  How can I export a figure? Is the button all for naught?

It was primarily done with morphs.  Only the hexarmatus, antliapiscis, multiremus, and Sea Cross (never named but you can see it on the right side at the very beginning of the pan down through the water.) had bones.  And even the multiremus  only had bones for it's neck and jaw.  It's fins and tentacles were done with morphs.

Well, directing nature documentaries would be a very different challenge.  Because in this I could control the animals, in reality I can't.  I could probably write the narrations though.

Well, this is what I've been doing for the last couple months.  It is the most complex, longest, and best animation I have ever done.  It's the result of a speculative biology project I've been thinking about for a couple years.  Can it be added to the youtube section? What is required to have that done?  I can answer any questions you have, I'm just not sure what to say right now.  Comments and criticism welcome.

When I try to extrude say a polygon along a path to make a bend tube, Anim8or always extrudes it with the polygon facing such that I end up with a flat plane bent along the path.  Does any one know what I'm doing wrong?

I like the chroma keying idea.  I'm using final cut pro so I can totally do that.  I was already planing on using it to mimic a focus shift.

Mak-Hardware Sony Vaio laptop with external mouse.  3 gigs of ram.
Software-Vista, Anim8or, Gimp for textures then I'm transferring it videos to a mac at my school to edit the final video with final cut pro.
