Thanks for the kind words!

I am really bad at textures... In fact I have been trying to make space ships for a while, but I can't make satisfactory textures.

I made progress when I realized that making textures for real everyday objects is much easier. I took pictures of books and tweaked them in PhotoShop. The colors were right from the start. I made a bump map by converting parts of the texture to greyscale and then boosting the contrast. I'm just happy it turned out the way it did!

The page in the movie is a separate object with 2 morph targets. One on the right and one on the left. Flipping the page is done by going from right to nothing to left.

I got the table from a free download off of the Internet. Nothing fancy...

Here's my first real creation in Anim8or. I did go through as many tutorials as I could find so you could say that this is not my *first* model. But it's the first one that I built by myself and for a specific purpose (not just to play around). I needed a book to tell a story in a movie that I made for my wife's birthday. (If you want to see the movie's intro, go here: http://www.birdnest.org/bruneaup1/book_movie.wmv.)

Once I had figured out the textures, my book looked realistic enough to start building a scene. Actually, the lighting and the camera movements were my two biggest headaches. Building the model was easy in comparison.

I just wanted to share. :)

Ok, I'll add my suggestion too ;). (It seems to me that this would be easy to code since most of the necessary functions are already written in the current program). How about having the ability to use a "server" version of Anim8or where you could send scenes and animations to be rendered? Here's how it would work: You could gather 3 or 4 old PC's running Windows and connect them via a cheap mini-switch to form a tiny network. Then you would start Anim8or in "server" mode on all those PC's. On your usual machine (where you do the modeling, etc.) you would start Anim8or in "client" mode and point it to the "servers". Now every time you need to render a scene or an animation, your "client" sends a copy of the file to the servers and immediately returns the control to you. The servers do the rendering in the background while you keep working on your models/scenes. When the rendering is done, your "client" gets notified and you can view the results. This would amount to a small render farm like the pros have.

If that feature is already part of Anim8or, I appologize in advance... :-[

Yes, it makes perfect sense. Thanks again!

Well, I'm not sure I understand why, but your trick works beautifully!!! The only "awkward" thing is that the "wall" is actually completely white in Scene mode and you have to render with a black background in order to get the full "space" effect.

In any case, this is a great help! Thanks!

Hello,

I'm trying to represent a star field. I have seen several methods including one using Terranim8or. But I was trying to find a simpler solution. So here's what I did:
-Create a simple cube, convert to mesh, get rid of all faces except one.
-Create a JPEG file with a bunch of black dots randomly located all over a white background.
-Create a new material. Load the JPEG file as its transparent texture. Apply to what is left of the "cube" (I call it the wall now).
-In scene mode, create a new scene. Add the "wall of stars". Position the camera in front of the "wall". Add an infinite light BEHIND the "wall".

Well, I was hoping to see the stars shining through the wall. All I see is dark.  ??? Does that make sense? What am I overlooking? Thanks for any help.
