Thanks Pincho :) Combining Anim8or with Dark Basic Pro sounds to me like you're after making a game, instead of a movie.
And, I don't mean to start a flamewar, but based on many years of experience with Anim8or, Blender and Maya, I've gotta admit Anim8or is only good for modeling and quick planar uv mapping, but even then modeling in Blender is many times easier and faster once you get used to it, although it's hell at first, while you are getting used to it :) Maya's modeling is close to anim8or's when it comes to speed and easiness, although it does have some extra tools, but I'd pick Blender for modeling any time. Anim8or is a great tool to start exploring 3D to see if it's something you want to do in life, since it's simple and yet allows creation of professional looking work if given enough time, but that time is the key factor :)

Hi everyone, long time no see. I'm a 21yr old college student now. Maybe some of you might still remember me from many years ago, I was the director of famous 'Anim8or Movie Project' back then.

I used to be hardcore Anim8or user, and actually used Anim8or professionally for 3 years, before moving on to learning Blender and Maya.

Well, since anim8or was my starting point and my main program for so long, and since some of maybe still remember me, I thought I'd share my biggest 3D achievement with you guys :) This is my biggest project up to date, that took over 8 months to complete. It's a 4 minute long animated 3d short, also my first attempt at animation. I didn't wanna put it in Finished works and works in progress forum since this is not made using anim8or, but rather it was all modeled in Blender 2.5 and animated using Maya.

I'm posting this here because I hope it can serve as inspiration for you guys still using anim8or, as in... "This is what you can do if you keep up the 3D, like I did :)". Also, big thanks to Steve for introducing me to 3D modeling via Anim8or, if it wasn't for him, maybe this movie would never be made either ;) So that's yet another reason to post this on this forum, ok enough chit chat, I hope you enjoy the movie!

ASL Scripts / Re: Script idea
« on: July 30, 2008, 11:26:51 am »
oh well, but that wouldn't be more efficient than copy pasting object yourself for a backup. more of a problem here is that script doesn't always work. some meshes just seem immune to it lol.

i need rocks to look like they really look in real world, at least to get the shape and size similar, and location exact. So i cant randomize their location. I use one rock, copy and then paste it and non uniform scale / rotate it to make it fit like some other rock. On some occasions rocks are too specific and i cant do it the easy way without it being obviously weird and i have to model it point by point and then they do look too artificial. so i would randomize them if i model them and i would randomize them when i copy paste the existing rock to make the rocks be more different from each other.

Edit: I noticed the script cant be undoed when once applied to an object. That's pretty unconvenient since you cant know how object will look exactly after noisedeform

thanks for replys, I tried the script and most of the time it works and is exactly what i had in mind. however sometimes it just doesn't work - does nothing, i checked the object is mesh and everything that it needs to be for it to work ofc.
Terranimator noise plugin wouldn't really work for me couse i have thousands of rocks to model in their exact positions where they should be (boring yea... tell me about it) so exporting into terranim8or just inst convenient for me at all. thanks anyways

I'll be using  the script whenever it decides to work for me. If i get any additional information on when it doesn't work exactly I'll post it here.
thanks again ;)

ASL Scripts / Script idea

I don't know how to make ASL scripts but I really could use script which would move selected points in random directions for specified distance.
I don't know if that's hard/easy possible/impossible to script but if anyone has any spare time and feels like scripting i would be thankfull.

Main reason for this is modeling of rocks, which always and up looking too artificial and i have to randomize all points by hand to make it look a bit more natural, which takes lot of time, and i have many rocks to do :)

Press printscreen button on your keyboard, go in paint, edit>paste, save as jpg, upload to imageshack or anywhere else, and post the link or image itself here.

Anim8or v0.98 Discussion Forum / Re: Crash / ART / Vista / render
« on: May 02, 2008, 07:38:34 am »
hey thx for answer ^^
So i turned off screen saver and auto turn of monitor and tried to render something with ART - after around 50 hours of rendering i got a pc-freeze with "nvidia graphich drivers stopped responding and succesfully recovered" - i get that usually when i do something that uses gfx card (gpu). All latest drivers cant fix it.... anyways was plaing wow then (and rendering at the same time) - so as usuall (happens once a day in avarage) pc-freezes, goes black, recoveres after 5 seconds (sometimes 1min or 2min even, very rarely bluescreen) - anyways after 5 sec everything works (wow works, firefox in background, guitar pro, winamp - everything works, only anim8or reports the same Microsoft Visual C++ runtime library error and crashes after 50+ hours of rendering... well was just trying out art renderer with lots of reflections and stuff...

Just wanted to notify of this as it happened for the second time now.
The screenshot contains all my system info.
Crashed while rendering with ART. Was using 36xAA (multi-jittered), specular/gloss (50k roughness) on multiple objects (cubes), and specular/reflection on textured bumpmaped plane.
My best guess is that it has something to do with my laptop monitor automatically shutting down after 20 minutes. I will remove the auto shut down monitor option and notify if it happens again.
Sorry for large resolution but it's the one I use.

wow, that's really really impressive :)

Finished Works and Works in Progress / Re: The Thinker crystalized

What is that supposed to be anyway.
Abstract human-like figure in an interesting pose with cool material :) ? y... at least that's my opinion.
I think maybe top of the head and shoulder and bottom of the leg could have been done different then it would look more consistent i guess... well i guess that's how I would do it but I cant really criticize an abstract figure in that way can I? :D
