.........one of the models suffers from a blue (bad normals) warp nacelle.  The problem is when I select the nacelle using the drag select tool and use the "flip normals" command, the selected faces don't all switch from blue to yellow...........
Have you tried to run Kubajzz's mesh clean up script which checks for malformed faces ?

It's here : http://www.anim8or.com/smf/index.php?topic=1105.msg7973;topicseen#msg7973

No, I've never run scripts before.  I've downloaded all the scripts and I'll give them a try!

        Thanks!

No Dreadkb, I didn't! That's the one I was probably thinking of initially.  I'll give it a try though.  ;D

Thanks, Pincho!  What can you tell me about fixing normals using Anim8or?  I'm working on some TMP era ships and one of the models suffers from a blue (bad normals) warp nacelle.  The problem is when I select the nacelle using the drag select tool and use the "flip normals" command, the selected faces don't all switch from blue to yellow.  (is it possible that more areas need to be ungrouped?)

Fixing normals is one of my last personal frontiers!!  ;D

        Thanks in advance!

Finished Works and Works in Progress / Tank and hatches?
« on: October 27, 2009, 04:11:56 pm »
I have a cylinder mesh that's roughly 300 meters long and 100 wide, it's a closed single wall.  The ends are covered in a lathed mesh.  What I'd like to do is make a double walled tank by copying the mesh, reducing it by 95% and importing it into the larger tank.  The tricky part to me is making three 10 meter wide cylinders for hatches and connecting them to the tanks so they stay hollow.  ;D   I'm working on some pods for a Star Trek Ptolemy class tug.  ;)

  Thanks!

I have to agree!  I have some experience with technical drawings, but when I started using Anim8or, much of what I knew really didn't apply.  When I started modeling, I just dove in head first and started playing around with all the primitives, editing tools and everything else.  Made some interesting mistakes and
made some interesting models too.  One word of wisdom, never throw anything out no matter how badly it turns out!   ;D

AccuTrans3d might be able to do that depending on how complex the image is.  I
found their website here...http://www.micromouse.ca/  I'm not sure what formats
you need, but since converting 3d formats is the main use of the software, you
will probably find something that works.  Anim8or will take .Obj or .3ds files and
a couple others too.

Nice work on this, it reminded me of the Buckbeak  HippoGriff from the Harry Potter movies.  You did a really great job on the texture map as well as the meshing!

  Thanks!

I like it!  It's simple but shows off Anim8or's advanced capabilities too.  (At least from my level!)

Hard drives are fairly tough, stepping on a computer and breaking the outer case  shouldn't have trashed the drive.  I'd keep trying, bring the HD without the computer to a repair place and ask them if they could attempt to read the drive.  You might have to find a smaller mom & pop place vs one of the larger chain stores.

I've got two guys in my area that are really honest and good,  only charged me  $17.50 labor and no parts to replace my CPU fan after everyone else wanted $75.00 to $100.00.

The point source of the test light is what actually lit up, there are no emissive materials in FP3d so the lava itself didn't glow in the render.  But there was a shadow where part of the lava mesh had blocked the light which was an interesting side effect.   Floorplan3d is a 3d architectural design suite by Imsidesign.  My version is about 5 yrs old, has been superceeded by TurboFloorplan 12 but replaced my FP3D v4.1 recently when I saw it on sale for $10.00 at Office Depot.  I actually got started using Anim8or because it was the only freeware program that would export .3ds objects that were compatible with FP3D.  I use Anim8or to clean up all the .3ds models I download to allow them to work faster in Fp3d.

ChristopherT, i agree that anim8or is easy to learn compared to many other 3D modeling programs, and i got most of the features down.
my problem is just that i have never been good at being artistic creative, and i dont know in wich situations i should use the different  tools.
but thanks anyway xD

good luck on the lights

The good news was verifying that I could import a .3ds model into Floorplan3d v8 and have it work correctly.  I
imported a lava lamp as a test and it rendered correctly.  So now I can focus on the lights.  I'm going on vacation for a week, so I'll have some time to kick it around.

   Thanks!

Thanks, guys for the suggestions. HiHoSilver, I didn't think of lathing the bulbs which wouldn't be hard at all.  Olias, I was actually thinking of the old glass C-7 bulbs for a project I was working on but LED lights might work.  Crasky, Anim8or isn't as hard to learn as some people might say.  I found it much easier than Blender, Gmax and a lot of others I tried.  Just remember to NEVER throw out your mistakes or other botched projects.  ;D

 Thanks guys!

General Anim8or Forum / Christmas Lights in 3ds for Floorplan3d v8
« on: May 29, 2008, 07:58:29 pm »
Has anyone done a string of Christmas lights in Anim8or?  I'm looking for one to import into Floorplan3d.  Any suggestions on
how to model my own would be appreciated too.

   Thanks!
