« on: December 11, 2010, 03:20:27 am »
so I'm trying to create bones for a figure, but every time I try to make the left hip, it adds the bone to the last one ... why???grrrrrrrr

never mind,I found out what I was doing wrong... but its kinda confusing how you add bones in different places... sheesh...

hmmm... thanks, ENSONIQ. it didn't occur to me to search for 'baker valve gear'...oops...lol... found a nice animation of a steam engine on wikipedia, too... and the photo is really what i needed, we don't have any steam locomotives here in hawaii to check out, so i'm gonna have to use images...fooey  :( ... if ya find any others, please post them, i got some, but more detail would be nice... might have bit off more then i can chew.. heh... dumped the first model, tried again with new specs, dumped second model... working on third.... oh well, each one gets a little better, and boy, can i whip out a spoked wheel now...lol. thanks again...

hey Kreator, thought my project might catch your attention... i have entertained the idea of animation, but would have to learn a lot more before it would happen... we'll see, would be kinda neat, and there is all kinds of animated gif's around that show everything in action... hmmm... maybe

thanks once more for your help, its nice to have people respond when ya callout

so, having finished my first scene, I decided to try something a little more complex... an old style steam locomotive...
attached is an image of as far as I've gotten from a photo I found on the WWW... but I'm hung up on the "Baker Valve Lever"...
so, if any of you guys have pictures or drawings of old locomotives, I'd appreciate it if you would post them or email them to me...
Also need some advice on the materials marked on the render, tried the materials database on anim8or.org... not so good...
messed with them for an hour, bur I can't seem to find the right set of values...grrrrrrrrr
thanks in advance...

thank you!! if you check out the ASL scripts database, on page four you'll find some plug-ins for the stairs, landing, and banister... try them out if you like...
so, remembering my mom always yelling at me to "get yer toys out of the front hall", I added the last element to my scene... he he he.. Bob Ross always said you should sign your art work, sooooooooooo... the final touch  :)

hmmm... hihosilver, that is one conclusion that I reached..fooey
and TheBlackHole, I need more then just a circle... have a new project in the works(see attached image:gear.jpg)...
which brings me to another problem I'm having with subdivision(image attached: huh.jpg)... the mesh is the same as I've seen in others models, but mine won't subdivide correctly... I assume that I'm not drawing it in the right order or something... any help????
thanks for your advice, both of ya and

ASL Scripts / help!!!
« on: November 30, 2010, 03:59:21 am »
can anyone tell me what is going here???(attached image) I'm trying to draw a circle with ASL, but for some(probbly simple) reason, it only draws verti(?) up to 251...the circle is supposed to have 360 points and vertices...
here's the partial code:
Code: [Select]

               $z=0; $inc = ($z*PI)/180; $x = 0; $y = 0;
$circle.OpenFace(0,0);
for $i = 0 to 360 do
{
$x = cos($inc)*$h; $y = sin($inc)*$h;
$circle.VertexN($circle.AddPoint(($x, $y, 0)));
$z = $z+1;
$inc = ($z*PI)/180;
}
$circle.CloseFace();
I can't figure it out, it draws the full circle if I use 2 degree increments, but not with one...grrrrrrr
as you can see, I'm only getting about 70% of the circle... but all the points are there????javascript:void(0);

thanks
and

thank you for your encouragement, kind sir.... the whole thing started as I followed a lighting tutorial, trying to make shadows... guess I got a little carried away with the thing...lol what I really wanted was shadows of lace curtains against the wall, but I discovered that light doesn't seem to flow thru transparent images, or even glass material, either...grrrrrr...
anyway thanks again for the critique and encouraging words

and here's an updated roofs script... it draws gable roofs with or without two styles of soffits... full rafters if ya need'em.. and three options for interior ceilings... i'll have to start another script for hip and dutch gable roofs...

oops! forgot to comment out:  $full = 1; you should do this(comment out:/*$full = 1;*/) and use the attribute to trigger them..

soooo.... i decided to use my new trigonometry knowledge to learn how to draw a circle with ASL... didn't take as long as expected, but for some reason my wheels turn to a bunch of ovals when i convert to subdivision...???...
anyway, now that i have circles, i decided i should use them in some script...lol...hmmm...bullnose for stairs sounded good... so here's a bunch of scripts for drawing stairs...
1. stairs.an8: draws three styles of stairs(4 if ya count two types of framing...).. fully adjustable for height and run... complete(sorta)                    instructions are in the file...
2. landing.an8: figured it would be nice to have the ability to have landings on your staircase, so her's a script to draw them... the landing will replace one step in the stairway...
3. banister1.an8 & banister2.an8: course, stairs need banisters to be safe...lol so here's two styles... they aren't really parametric shapes, cause they aren't adjustable at all... they only fit the default stairway....

new: after realizing that the second banister was being drawn way out of place, I finally figured out how to move to close to the pointer... so I'm changing the attachment to the new plug-in...sorry for the hassle

Kreator: here are the styles of soffit/barge junctions I have so far... just so ya don't duplicate them...lol
option 0 is the only type I have actually built...
option 1 was an obvious alternate... and a search on the www resulted with this one as the most used?!?
option 2 is a treatment I saw in a movie recently...

forgot..again...lol here's an image of rafters on 24" and 16" centers...
