what stat are you putting the texture in? Ambient, bumpmap, diffuse, etc.? You need to use diffuse.

I have just made a tutorial for beginners an how to apply a texture. It is all explained in images.
Have a look : http://www.3d-anim8.com/tutorials/

Hope it helps  :)
Thats pretty much what i said. do you need to UV it though? can't you just rotate it so that the face that the texture shows up on is facing the front view?

I'm not that good at texturing, but if you just want to basically texture something make a material. then in the ambient, diffuse, specular, and emissive sections is a square with a dash (-) in it. click on the one next to diffuse. click load texture. Go to My Pictures or wherever you keep your textures and click one. then hit open. there will be a box that has three textures in it: none, CHECKS, and whatever one you are using. click on the one your using. then hit ok. then hit ok again. then apply the material to your object. It will now be textured. yay! :)

I haven't tried it, but you could make a transparent sphere around your object, and give its material that "glossyreflector" class that the new ART raytracer supports. Check this: http://www.anim8or.com/download/preview/art_raytracer.html
I'll try that, thanks.
Could you post the transmap you used?  It looks like you'll definitely want to use a transmap, but I'm not sure why it's coming out solid.
I used a water texture just for an experiment, i didn't seriously try using a transmap. This is the texture though. I wanted to make it look like there were sunspots, and that part worked, but it looked to solid.

Do you mean haze like this:
http://anim8ormovie.14.forumer.com/viewtopic.php?t=659
You might have to ask Starbuck
Yeah, thats what I'm trying to make for the haze. I found a tutorial for haze like that once, but i was still working on the tutorial robin animation, so i didn't really care about it then. Now when I need it, I cant find the tutorial.

Can you give drawing or examples of it?  I'm not exactly sure the type of haziness you're trying to achieve.  I also don't really understand what kind of thing you're trying to do with a flare, though for that kind of a thing I'd highly encourage trans maps.

I'm trying to make a solar flare, like this: I took that picture from celestia. What I mean is like a visible light. I tried a trans map, but it turned out too solid looking.

Is it possible to make haze in Anim8or? Not fog, but a haze in one area. Also, can you make flares, like around a star or something? I tried making a texture like that, but it turned out looking like a huge animated ion. that didn't quite work. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks in advance. :)
