what stat are you putting the texture in? Ambient, bumpmap, diffuse, etc.? You need to use diffuse.
Ian Ross has just released a book on Anim8or. It's perect for a beginner and a good reference for experienced users. It contains detailed chapters on every aspect, with many examples. Get your own copy here: "Anim8or Tutorial Book"
I have just made a tutorial for beginners an how to apply a texture. It is all explained in images.Thats pretty much what i said. do you need to UV it though? can't you just rotate it so that the face that the texture shows up on is facing the front view?
Have a look : http://www.3d-anim8.com/tutorials/
Hope it helps
I haven't tried it, but you could make a transparent sphere around your object, and give its material that "glossyreflector" class that the new ART raytracer supports. Check this: http://www.anim8or.com/download/preview/art_raytracer.htmlI'll try that, thanks.
Could you post the transmap you used? It looks like you'll definitely want to use a transmap, but I'm not sure why it's coming out solid.I used a water texture just for an experiment, i didn't seriously try using a transmap. This is the texture though. I wanted to make it look like there were sunspots, and that part worked, but it looked to solid.
Do you mean haze like this:Yeah, thats what I'm trying to make for the haze. I found a tutorial for haze like that once, but i was still working on the tutorial robin animation, so i didn't really care about it then. Now when I need it, I cant find the tutorial.

You might have to ask Starbuck
Can you give drawing or examples of it? I'm not exactly sure the type of haziness you're trying to achieve. I also don't really understand what kind of thing you're trying to do with a flare, though for that kind of a thing I'd highly encourage trans maps.
