General Anim8or Forum / Texture Mapping for imported .obj objects?
« on: June 12, 2008, 12:12:55 am »
I prefer to do modeling operations using a different modeling tool, and then import the resulting objects into Anim8or as .obj files.  However, a problem I've encountered is that Anim8or does not know how to apply image textures to these objects - when I try, it seems to apply just a single random color from the image.  Does anyone know how to display these textures for imported objects?

Also, while talking about textures - is there a way to apply an image texture as a pattern - a.k.a, have multiple versions of the image covering the object to which it is applied?

Thanks!

General Anim8or Forum / Weird camera behavior

Is there any way to prevent objects from disappearing in front of the camera before it reaches them?  When I have the camera move closer to an object, the object disappears once it reaches a certain distance - this is really annoying.

Thanks!

General Anim8or Forum / Object Duplication method in Scene Mode?
« on: April 20, 2008, 07:18:05 pm »
Alright, since I'm trying to make objects fade in and out in an animation, but there's apparently no way to control transparency in scene mode, I'm going with toggling the visibility of multiple object copies in the same position.  However, since adding and scaling each instance of an object individually into scene mode would get ridiculously tedious, is there any way to create additional versions of object(s) already in the scene (with all their current properties)?

Thanks, think I'll just toggle multiple layers of objects on and off to replicate transparency.

Another question though, is there a way to get to the properties screen of an object without having to click on the object (assuming it is selected)?

General Anim8or Forum / Basic Anim8or Questions
« on: April 09, 2008, 06:57:20 pm »
Okay, I've been trying to use anim8or to make a video, and there are a few things I'd like to do:

1. How do you select an object inside another object?  I want to select ONLY the object inside, NOT drag-select everything around it.
2. How do change the transparency of a single instance of an object (inserted multiple times) in the Scene mode.  I want to have different versions of the same object fade out and in at different times.

Help on any would be appreciated.

When a face(s) are selected, you can either go "edit>select>Grow face selection" or simply press "shift+g" to grow the face selection.

Thanks!  That works fine!

right click will add a selection
alt-right click will take one away

hope this helps

Thanks, that did help, but is there a way to select all polygons that are connected to each other in one click?

nobody seems to want to reply to you Tohron... so I will ...
try going into face mode select the faces of the part you are trying to disconnect, then  edit/Detach faces or keystroke Shift D

then move them out

I'm not sure you understand what I want to do - I just want a way to texture areas of the model seperately, without having to individually select every single face everytime I want to make a change.  I don't want to literally break the object apart.

The obj. object is made up of a bunch of basic shapes with no connected geometry - is there a way to divide the object up into its component shapes? (Ungroup doesn't seem to work)

If not, are there at least a way to add or remove things from a selection?

General Anim8or Forum / Breaking apart .obj Objects (solved)
« on: January 27, 2008, 11:27:19 am »
Hello, something I'm trying to do with Anim8tor is import and texture a number of .obj objects.  However, I want to texture different parts of the object seperately, but all the parts of the object seem to be stuck together in one giant group (I hit ungroup, but it doesn't do anything).  The only way I can see to get around this is to convert the entire thing into a giant mesh, but then it's still near-impossible to texture it properly because of the apparent limits in Anim8tor's selection abilities (I can't find a way to add or remove things from selections).

Does anyone know of a way to solve this?
