Hello Anim8ors,

I haven't posted here in years because life has been too busy. I had forgotten how much I used to enjoy modeling various scenes in this cool program. Here is a random thing that I did just now for fun. I hope everyone is doing well these days!

EXCELLENT work either way! But did you actually fabricate this object, and is the image on the right an actual photograph of the item?

Lo sorry - I meant the 'plumbus' from the show Rick and Morty could be considered a bit of an odd and interesting design that could 'raise some questions

I've never seen Rick and Morty and never heard of a plumbus. Had to google it. Pretty weird, but I can see a certain resemblance lol. I guess i need to watch more television.

it's like a cross between a plumbus (possibly nsfw?)...

I hadn't intended it to resemble anything NSFW at all! It's just a nonsense gadget. Maybe I need to be more careful about what I post.

I didn't have time to model anything serious, so I did this just for fun.

Thanks for explaining, everybody, that makes sense. I did not understand about the triangular faces. I just noticed that extrusions did not subdivide well. The main reason I asked is because I saw an example once (a long time ago) where someone had made "liquid" text objects. They were very smooth and clearly they were subdivisions. I have tried for years to figure out how it was done but to no avail. Subdivision are my favorite because they look so cool with environment maps.

Hi Anim8ors,

I would like to be able to create subdivisions from extruded objects without having the odd "tessellation" effect seen in the attached image. Thanks for any help you can offer.

Both are useful. I wish there was a hotkey to toggle between the old arc rotate and the new one.

Just playing around with textures and I thought this looked sort of cool.

Steve, I like the trackball feature, but sometimes I don't need that much precision. I wonder if it would be possible to modify it so that it would rotate freely on all axes and slide in all directions when you click in any quadrant rather than on the lines.

"Over-sexualized" is a value judgement. I'm sure it's not part of the curriculum. It's just an opinion.

Anyway, maybe it's sort of like a Rorschach ink blot test-- the individual's interpretation tells you something about the individual.

I had no intention of saying how folks should vote and apologies if that's the way my post came across.
I didn't take it that way at all. Actually, my post didn't come across the way I intended. I just meant that I wasn't trying to say that it isn't okay to pick one just because it is a nice picture. I don't disagree with you on any point, except that I think Renegade is a strong contender for first place.

... for such an auspicious event as the release of the long-awaited version 1.0...

This adds an interesting perspective to this 'comp'.  It's not about whose image is 'best', it's about which image works best as a splash screen for Anim8or.
Nobody specified any criteria for judging. I just thought it would be fun to mention what I like about the contenders. Maybe it is just about which is the most compelling image.

So here is what sets Renegade apart: This one has a lot of energy and motion. Things are exploding and the hero (or villian) is dodging  enemy fire to make his escape. A lot of  cool things are happening at once-and you tell the whole story in a single 750x450 image. I won't be surprised at all if Rengade is our winner.

I really thought there would be one or two mediocre entries,  but that isn't the case.

Be Lovely to Each Other...What a nice sentiment! Fromsoysauce, your style is truly unique. I like the way you reinvented these two familiar Anim8or characters to tie in to the general Anim8or theme. Also, it looks like you modeled your Anim8or logo by hand, rather than simply extruding a text object. I think only you and Kunihiko did that. Nice touch.
