Either I'm misunderstanding something or that does not work.

To me, a new spline would be the tools you use for lathe, which is not what I mean.  (those dont require holding down anything anyway, just clicking and dragging normally)
But when I hit the add edge button and hold shift while dragging, literally nothing happens.

Edit: oops, I see now. I had to make sure I wasnt on the shaded modes. It appears to work now.

Follow up question, it looks like points go way further than where my mouse is, is this just something I need to get used to in the latest version or can I put it back to precisely following where my cursor is?

As in starting fresh on a new mesh? It used to be shift, but it seems to have changed?

Anim8or v1.0 Discussion Forum / Re: render resolution limit

Even if you could allow anim8or to do two separate renders that we can then stitch together that would be neat. I rant into this limitation myself yesterday. Never thought I would even go that high rez but I had someone who wanted to print out a huge background.

For anyone who's hanging around... what can we do to garner interest in Anim8or (and in the forums) again???

i'm tempted to say 'make a film'.  must admit i haven't made a CGI short in 10 years now, but i'd love to get back into it.

maybe in the interests of feasibility we should start by aiming for a very short video (30-60 sec or so) rather than a full-blown short film; something that could be put together fairly quickly to try and build momentum. It
Any hope for an Anim8or forums revival? Looks like there's an average of what, 2 posts per day these days. I've been here 10 years and it's never been this dead!

Honestly I think a site redesign would do wonders for the community. People see a site from the 90s and click away immediately if they find it at all. It doesn't look like a site for a modern 3D program at all. I get that updates are more important, but its not hard to create a site on squarespace or something that has a modern feel to it.

More advanced updates would help too, but I get that you can only go so far with a one man band.

Is it an issue of not having enough keys? I think you can remap them in software somehow, maybe that would help?

Work harder steve, or I'm reducing your pay by half.

Nice. This was a long time coming. And now I finally have a beast of a desktop to take advantage of this too. Though its interesting to see what parts the renderer is struggling with. Often times what I assumed would be the simplest turned out to take the longest.

Oh cool, this update should mean I can have windows (with transparent properties) set to not cast shadows while still using art. I had to omit the glass before to use art.

Edit: camera movement using the old arc rotate shows erratic behavior when middle mouse clicking.

Edit 2: can you elaborate on what this is about steve?

Scene Editor: Add camera move/pan widget. Active in Arrow/Move and Arrow/Rotate modes.

Yeah, I've done it on occasion using photoshop and the zdepth render...

But it would be nice if someone could streamline the process.

This probably doesn't count as a touch screen in the more common sense, but I use a Cintiq. The rotation seems...disorienting to me. If I change the Y rotation then switch to an X rotation its as if I'm tilting my head slowly to the side, which I would never want.

And while a right click wouldn't really work when using fingers, it would be good for me as I always have two buttons on the stylus, with one assigned to a right click.

General Anim8or Forum / Re: Turn off Shadows in ART render?
« on: June 29, 2017, 11:49:06 pm »
Nope, no way to turn them off in ART.  I wish there was, it makes it so I cant render light coming through windows properly without leaving out the glass. Maybe combining two renders, one with and one without. But that's no fun.

This would be fine for lower poly stuff, but higher poly might need a more elegant solution. One things for sure though, anim8or could really use better rigging tools.

I never did figure out how to rig/animate hands myself.

Apparently its even difficult for Nintendo. With games like Mario Galaxy or 3D world they swap in different poses for each frame, stop motion style.

Yeah, I would like basically 3 user adjustable default sizes, a small medium and large.

While I'm wishing for things, it would be nice if we could tell it to render just a quarter or half of an image. This way we could have two or more instances of anim8or running in the background to speed up renders significantly. (they can be rejoined in photoshop)

I don't think there's much you can do, anim8or is the bottleneck here not your computer.
