Technically it isn't a render but i use HyperSnap-DX which lets you capture images that are on your screen to show wireframes.

I would say use an environment map on the "metallic" parts, even if its not turned up very much, to give them all a shiny reallistic look. Also i've used bump maps on handles (when i made weapons) to simulate a cloth texture and on the blade to try and show the imperfections that come from days of hammering :D. All in all great start! These are just some tips to help you make the best of your models ^__^

the end, no pain and fuss, i like this method a lot thank you ENSONIQ5 ^^ usually i just make a cylinder then go through the painful process of connecting the dots and filling holes ><
