Title: Hairless Rodents
Post by: cooldude234 on July 02, 2008, 04:51:48 pm
Hey, does anybody know how to generate fur or hair. I'm making a movie with animals but they look like hairless rodents.

there's a utility out there somewhere called hairgen, you might want to google it, or maybe check the anim8or.com utilities page first.  alternatively, have a read of the ASL board, someone might have posted a script on there.

i haven't tried it myself, so i'm not sure how reliable these methods are, but i'm pretty sure there's a tool or two out there.

hope that helps 8)

or work through this and pretend your tree is a rat?

http://www.planit3d.com/source/tutorials/helmuts_tut/helmut1.htm

basically you can use transmaps to make your fur.

so s earch for transmaps :)

cooldude234:  http://www.anim8or.com/smf/index.php?topic=906.0 (http://www.anim8or.com/smf/index.php?topic=906.0).  That is exactly what you're looking for.  You'll have to adapt your own technique, as every individual strand can be strenuous, but perhaps you would want to copy a plane and add a transmap to add multiple pieces of hair or something like that.
