Title: noobie question
Post by: justaservent on July 01, 2008, 01:21:04 am
Hi, thank you in advance for reading this
I am trying to get started with 3d modeling. Anyway, and picked a giant complete how to book for maya at agoodwill store, and Iwas wondering if I could use the book with anim8or even though they are different programs. That is, my question is wheather or not the bulk of the material will carry over. The book is called mastering maya2 complete.
Thank you for reading this and please feel free to shout "noob!" if the answer should be obvious to me.

My guess is that most of the material will probably not translate to anim8or.  Any techniques and theories you learn as well as general information will translate, but the specific steps on how to do things within the program will not translate.  I'm sure it could still be helpful.
You can also try the Maya PLE (Personal Learning Edition.)

ya just google "maya personal learning edition download" and you should be able to get a program that works with your book. but i would suggest learning to use anim8or first because it is so mush easier (trust me i have the maya PLE) and also if you have less then 1GB of ram maya runs veeeerrrrry ssssllllllooooowwwwwlllllyyyyy.

good luck! if you need help the other members of the forum are always ready and willing to supply answers but make sure that you have checked the manual first because some people get mad if you ask a question that is answered there ;)
