Title: v0.97b Preview Ready
Post by: Steve on June 05, 2008, 03:01:29 am
I've posted an update to the latest preview called v0.97b.  It's dated June 1, 2008 and adds:

1. a few more texture modes to the ART renderer,

2. some new ASL script functions,

3. multi-threaded rendering (no, it doesn't use more threads to render faster, it uses one to render and one for the GUI to make Anim8or more responsive when rendering and to keep Vista from thinking that Anim8or is locked up.  Multiple threads for faster rendeing will come later.)  Please test the multi-threaded mode (use the Render->Multithreaded command to enable it) and let me know about any problems.

4. Some v0.97 bugs have been fixed.

Read the update on the v0.97 Preview page for details http://www.anim8or.com/download/preview/index.html (http://www.anim8or.com/download/preview/index.html)

Has that not been fixed yet steve?

That always puzzled me...

what are additional ART textur modes?
I'd like to see a texture mode that allows an objet to be used as a light.

Great to see multithreading.

In case of confusion, you don't need multiple cores to use this feature. It lets you do things like minimize and switch windows, then return and see the rendering progress.

Do the "few more texture modes" mean more attributes?
If so, can you tell us what they are?
Thanks, this update is great by the way.

Kreator: If  you click at the top View -> Preferences and under File Output uncheck Shadows that should solve your problem. (It solved mine ;D)

I think this is them:

- Add diffuse and specular textures to GlossyReflector class.
- #097-003 - Class glosyreflection Doesn't Support Diffuse, Bumpmap, and Specular Textures.
- #097-005 - ART Renderer Has Incorrect Environment Map Reflections.
- #097-006 - ART Renderer doesn't support the Alpha or Depth Channels.

KiwiNM8OR, are both of these with v0.97b but with multi rendering off and on?  Or is the "Before" one with v0.97a and the "After" with v0.97b?  I did fix a couple of reflection problems for the v0.97b release that could change the result like this.

1st image 0.97a Art Ray Trace non multi
2nd Image 0.97b Art Ray Trace with multi

I like the new renderer. With some tweaking of the lights it turned out thus:

Good job Steve adding the background color as an environmental variable to ART. The results look pretty good  when the final rendering is complete.  I also enjoyed layering the materials to create extra depth in my meshes with the ART mode as well(though rendering was longer as expected).  I did this with the earlier version of Anim8or as well but even with this beta version the results are very pleasing with just the built-in checks texture and a few malformed spheres that I built to test out the ART modes. The image and coloring contrasting is true to what I am actually rendering.  Especially, when I am using the lower AA modes to get a crisper picture in the final rendering.

GOOD work, Pete ;D

Don't know if this problem is new to the version or a pre existing problem. But do understand that there is existing problems in Windows Vista.

Anyhow, Drag Selection doesn't seem to 'refresh' the screen while selection is being made. It does however make the selection and refreshes afterward.

VBSmiles: that problems already been reported on the General section, to fix it just 'Disable Desktop'.
To do this: right click on the Anim8or.exe, go to properties and then Compatibility, there should be a check box saying "Disable Desktop", check it.
