I am having a problem that I just can not seem to fix, I have a texture ok, I can load it in, fine..
I make a cube not a problem.
Click the buttons that will allow me to select faces, that I can do.
If I select the front and back faces of the cue and add the texture it looks fine, but when I go to select the sides, top and bottom faces and add the texture the texture gets added but it seems stretched.
What am I doing wrong.

you must change the uv !!spelling!! courdinites !!spelling!! yourself, select the faces that are streched, then click the cursor icon on the top (it's 2 buttons across the point edit button or whatever wich is represented by three dots, it's the top left button), and click the big "uv" button above the button that allows you to create a sphere. then just change the uv !!spelling!! courdinits !!spelling!! yourself.
-
Additional note: In UV mode, the left mouse button changes the orientation of the UV coordiinates, the right button changes the position of the coords, and the miiddle button (or right button + ALT) changes the scale of texture.
NB: This is for Anim8or V0.95. I am not sure if 0.96 is different.

Thanks for the help but I still can not figure it out, is there a tutorial somewhere,
I select one of the sides (it has multiple faces) then select the UV buttoand rotate the square that apears but nothing changes on the face I have selected..
-
I've never been able to figure the UV tool out either :P
so........
I find it easier to use UVMapper and apply textures that way.

Use UVMapper to unwrap the cube and then use Photoshop or simular to apply the texture

Hope this helps
PS: texture from web

oh, you didn't convert it to mesh before trying it, goto build>convert to mesh, then try what i told you, and like the other guy said, be careful when you hit left mouse button, that won't rotate it the way you'd want it to, only use the left mouse button and middle mouse wheel for moving and scaling the texture.
-
I converted my model to mesh, but still doesnt work, I don't understand,
I do everything you say,
Once I press the UV button a cirle apears with a square in the middle I can rotate the square but what is supoe to happen?.
If I select to whole cude I see the texture mo frm one face to another, Almost as if I were just rotating the object.
If i select a face or two and then rotate the square that apears within the circle nothing happens the texture stays still.
-
Ofcourse you should first make a material and apply it to the mesh. Press enter and the material bar will pop up, there you can make a material and then press apply. I really suggest that read the manual and try out the tools while reading.
-
LOL I have read the manual thank you, I have read it several times,
I have made a cube loaded a texture added, basicaly what I said in the very first post!, and for that matter in my last post.
that is how I know that on the sides and top and bottom faces the texture is stretched, I have then clicked on those said faces and click on UV and then rotated the little square but nothing happens.

There's a slight misunderstanding here.
First you load your texture in materials
Then, in point mode you select a face, which will show yellow, and you apply your material to that face;
then you select another face and again apply your material
and so on until all the required faces are covered.
If a texture is stretched on a particular face goto Settings > Component and change the X or Y or Z axis. You can further fine tune if you also tick Apply Interactively which will put the UV ring over the face.
Hope this helps :)
