Post by: GeniusAtWork on May 13, 2008, 05:42:03 pm
Hi. Im just wondering if it is helpful to use a reference image when box modeling or is it just for drawing splines or edge loops. and also. i a modeling a character at the moment which is like an octopus crossed with a man. so far the names i have for him are octoman or octoglog. anyone got a better name suggestion. :)

It's almost always useful to have a reference images.  Otherwise you wont know what form you want!  It can make things much easier for yourself if you draw up a reference image, even if it is to rough out the general shape of the character.

octoped, octo-sapien, hominus-octopedius. those are the best i can think of now, and yeah i always use reference images when i box model.
ps. i kinda like octo-sapien myself

darn.  :P

well, i like octo-sapien as a species name, but i'm not sure it'd work as a character's individual name.  how about just Octus?  it's short, but i think it works.  and i guess the pseudo-Latin-iness gives it a bit of class, maybe.  just imo.

anyways, when do we get to see a pic, WIP or otherwise?  :)

But seriously now. When i model something always do a quick search with google for pictures, just to see how the shapes look like and what kind of details i could add. Its really helpfull to watch closely to some images before, during and after you are modeling.

Hold up Dr.Octagon is a rapper, so Mr.Octagon is semi-taken.
