Title: An8zip - texture packager for Anim8or
Post by: CobraSpectre on May 07, 2008, 11:43:49 pm
An8zip is a stand alone utility that searches an anim8or file for the images that are used and then packages the anim8or file and images into a zip.

An8zip does not modify or write to the anim8or file, though you should still have a backup. If not all images were found, try resaving the anim8or file in Anim8or.

Download it, try it out, and please report any problems. I've only tested with Windows XP.

Known Issues:

Only the file location saved in the anim8or file is searched.

Images that have the same filename but a different directory are not handled. The image name must be changed.

Directory structure is not preserved.

Windows 95/98/ME may require w9xpopen.exe to run.

Download from Anim8or.org from the attachments of the first post (http://anim8or.org/forums/index.php/topic,817.0.html) or try this direct link to An8zip_v1.zip (http://anim8or.org/forums/index.php?action=dlattach;topic=817.0;attach=3750)

I tought of something like this yesterday!! I was going to post it in the anim8or .97 preview forum, but might as well ask now.

Steve, how about something like this ^(look up) incorporated in anim8or? So, next time we save an an8 file, all textures are saved along with it! That way, we never have the problem of missing textures anymore. MS Office does it too, it packs all files (including the .doc file) into a .zip file, and renames it to .docx . couldnt something like that be done with anim8or too? It would also cause anim8or files to be much smaller (hence they are compressed).

anyway, cobraspectre, your tool is awesome and i am surely gonna use it!!

erm, geeky correction: .docx is actually the default file format for the new MS Office Word 2007 (replacing .doc, which was used in all versions up to Word 2003), it's not a special compression thing...

hehe i know that, but try to unzip a .docx file. you'll notice that it is actually a zip-file containing several data files. try it!
