Title: Weird camera behavior
Post by: Tohron on April 27, 2008, 07:38:41 pm
Is there any way to prevent objects from disappearing in front of the camera before it reaches them?  When I have the camera move closer to an object, the object disappears once it reaches a certain distance - this is really annoying.

Thanks!

This is related to the "Z-Distance" parameter of the camera, which can sometimes come in handy for hiding objects either too close or too far away.  You can adjust it in the Scene Editor by clicking Settings > Environment (Opens Environment Editor dialog box).  Then, click the Advanced button at the bottom, which opens the advanced Environment Editor dialog box.  If you want to allow te camera to get closer to your object(s), decrease the Z-Near value.

Hope this helps...

Ye exacly what RudySchneider says. A Z-Near of 1 stops objects from disappearing. I suggust always using a Z-near of 1.

Good info.  I've been using Anim8or for many years now, and I found out about this like...last week.  Doh.

"Always using a Z-near of 1" is not always a good idea! Steve could have made it into a default if it was such a good choice, but it is not. The smaller z-near is, the worse is the depth sorting resolution (which decides whether one triangle is in front of another). So, making z-near always 1 you may mess up the rendering of closely neighbouring triangles.

I always render with Z-near of 1, never had any problems with it.
