Title: The Utah teapot
Post by: Kubajzz on April 27, 2008, 04:39:16 pm
here's another useless plugin I made... - no, that wasn't a good intro.... Let's try again:

Ladies and gentlemen,

let me introduce you the Utah teapot plugin.
The Utah teapot, also called 'Teapotahedron' (the sixth Platonic solid) or just 'The Teapot', was first modeled in 1975 and it became something like a 'standard dummy object' for any 3D work. Mcheccyb gave me the idea to create this script about a week ago on the anim8or.org forum (I didn't know anything about The Teapot before) and now it's here! I tried hard to get the shape as close as possible to the original one; I may post even more accurate version later, but this is the final shape for now. Feel free to use the teapot anytime and anywhere, but always treat it good!
Remember, it's not a normal teapot, it's The Teapot!

See the links below to read more about it's history.

May The Teapot be with you...

Thanks for this historical information. I have seen "The Teapot" mentioned a few times but without further info, now I know "The Story"  :)

i first remember seeing The Teapot in the "3-d pipes" screensaver in Windows 95.  wow, that was a long time ago...  *geeks out*

i'll have to download this script, just for the sake of having the thing.  no idea what i'll do with it yet, but i'll make a point to think of something!  ;D

thanks, kubajzz!!!

May The Teapot be with you...

...and with you also, master.  *jedi bow thing*

thecolclough:  One thing you can do with it is play around with rendering and materials.  That's what it's normally been used for in the past ;)

Fabulous idea, Kubajzz!  Mind if I add it to the Scripts page?

haha, yes, I know it shouldn't be there... I thought nobody would notice :-\

It's not 100% original, but as far as I know later versions of the teapot didn't have that hole in the bottom any more... And if you really need the hole for some reason, you can convert it to mesh and delete that point in the center :)
