Title: Help with a wierd render.
Post by: flametiger74 on April 24, 2008, 11:13:44 am
I was rendering a scene of blocks and when I rendered it with v 0.97 and 0.95 and the render was still messed up.
Here's the render.

here's a screenshot of anim8or of what it should actually look like.

I tried it on two computer so far and both came out the same way. It's XP not vista. Maybe I'll try updating the graphics drivers but I don't think that's it. The wierd thing is, is that all the other object in this one project I'm working on are rendering correctly but this one object is not rendering correctly. I'm not really sure what the issue is. And the cubles aren't made from textures there just normal colors.

No, I am sure someone said anim8or's render is not from the graphics card but the CPU (I maybe wrong). But that's what I heard

That sort of error can occur if you have more than one face sharing the same space.  I'm betting that, in order to create this multi-sided, multi-faced cube, you copied one side and pasted it in a new location, perhaps after (or before) rotating it.  I'll bet you actually have more than one copy laying on top of another.

A word to the wise:  renderer's don't really know what to do with polygons that occupy the same space.  You and I may normally perceive this as merging or combining surfaces.  Unfortunately, render engines don't really "think" like you and I.

You can confirm my suspicions by calculating the total number of faces you SHOULD have, and compare this to the actual number of faces Anim8or says you have (Options > Info).  My quick calculation says you should have (7 x 7 x 6 x 6 =) 1764 faces.  I'll bet Anim8or claims you've got more.

I could just be an issue with .97.

Various other threads have described problems with ART and I believe Steve mentioned in one or more of those threads that he is aware of the problem.

Thanks RudySchneider. You got the problem correct. Some how there was a second thing of the same thing w/out color right where the color ones were. I got it right. Thanks.

I though you textured the faces, which did look pretty cool.

Well I was thinking of actually keeping it, but I was doing it for a company's logo and I didn't want it to look weird.
