Title: Stupid Non-Newbie Question #1
Post by: Old Codger on October 20, 2023, 11:33:04 am
I vaguely recall being to generate a sphere with a known number of lat/long segments and a specified size. Am I off the beam? What I want to do is make a medicine capsule shape with max resolution and not have to futz with surface normals. I figure to do that as follows: generate a circular spline of max resolution, split it in 2, separate the halves, connect the halves with straight lines and lathe the resulting shape into my medicine capsule with surface normals all nice and arranged.

Could somebody point me in the right direction?

Here's how I've done it:

With Anim8or in Object mode, select the Sphere icon. In the main viewpane, left-mouse-button click where you want the sphere to be (roughly: it can be moved later).  Then double click on the sphere's image. That'll bring up the Sphere Editor menu, where you can specify the number of divisions. After you've chosen appropriate longitude and latitude values (Latitude needs to be changed to an odd number, not an even value), you can select Build -> Convert to Mesh. Then switch to Point Edit and drag points to get the desired shape.

(I'll add a screengrab shortly.)

Oh, thank you! It's terrible to remember the high level tasks but not the low level steps to accomplish them. Skills are very much a use-it-or-lose-it proposition.

You're very welcome!

(Sorry for this late reply, I don't visit the forum as often as I should.)
