Title: sketch-based modeling and Anim8or
Post by: ianross on September 14, 2022, 09:48:14 am
Monster Mash is a new sketch-based modeling and animation tool that allows you to quickly
sketch a character and it inflates it into a 3D model, and promptly animate it.
You can export it as OBJ file format with a texture into anim8or.

These are some finished results that have been imported into anim8or.

I altered the image in phoxo (free 2d editing program) to iron out the stretch marks and added a black and white bump map. I also altered the material settings.

Also you can add bones to the monster mash models.

I created this 3d dragon's head in Monstermash.zone, I then imported into anim8or and added a simple  bone system to animate it. ;D

Then using free apps on my smart phone I changed my face to roman style helmet with beard.
I then used another free app called Capcut to eliminate the background in my home.

Following this I imported my capcut film footage into shotcut (free software) and created a series of
pngs with a transparent background.

I then used a simple script to import the png's of myself into Anim8or.

Clever! But I think you should be threatening that firedrake with a toasting fork loaded with a crumpet!

All joking apart, great results!

Can you use Monster Mash to convert text in to a party balloon like title sequence?

Thank you Hindsight, monster mash works better with whole figures, it does not subtract inside of meshes so creating the letter O would be a problem?

Wow! Impressive tech. I remember playing around with something called "Teddy" many years ago that tried doing something similar, but very basic. I'll have to check this out

I created the following images, using an AI application, monstermash and anim8or. 8)
Firstly, I asked the AI app to create a woolly mammoth side view. Then I traced around the image of the mammoth in monstermash and it inflated into a 3d model.
The 3d mammoth was then imported into Anim8or, the 2d backdrops were created in the AI online app.

What AI did you use? I've never seen a mammoth with tusks pointing down :)

I guess you treated the tusks like legs in monstermash to get two of them? Or did you add them manually?

It looks good! Is this part of a larger project?

Thank you Hindsight you are right the tusks should be pointed outwards, please see the below changes.
There are many apps that can be used to create AI, here is a websites that is a good starting place.

The mammoth images have been created for educational interest for the anim8or forum. 8)

Thanks for the AI link. I've just had a little play with it - it is good! Although it seems to get a bit confused with fingers (see attached image).

Your mamoth looks right to me now.

I wondered if you created the tusks like the legs in monstermash. But I guess you must have added them manually?
