Trying to make a model for someone to use in a web comic. Sent him an exported model. Then this a.m. I decided to import it into another Anim8or project to look at what I sent. I swear the the model was fully self-textured with various materials. And the material names do show up in the materials list. I looked at the materials and the various settings (ambient, diffuse, specular, etc.) are right but the RGB settings that set color are all at default. Perplexing. Where did I mess up?

I tried earlier with no luck. I did send you the .obj that I exported and then imported back into Anim8or.
I tried to attach a zip of the .an8 project file but got the following error message instead:
Your attachment couldn't be saved. This might happen because it took too long to upload or the file is bigger than the server will allow.
Please consult your server administrator for more information.
The the .an8 file is just over 41Mb. A zip of the project is too big for email (just over 7Mb) but Rar brings it down to just over 4Mb. I also have ready a 3 part rar with no part greater than 2Mb. Some email servers get upset about big files. Your call, Mr. G.

I can't find the exact object pictured above, but I exported the "Locust adjusted" object to the .obj format and then imported the result and all the materials were preserved.
Note: Anim8or only exports materials that are referenced in the object being exported. If it only uses the default material then none are exportd.
BTW nice model of the Locust.

I have no idea what was going on earlier. I just did a test export and the .mtl accurately depicted the materials used. Was having a run of anomalous behavior yesterday. I suspect it had something to do with M$ pushing some sort of alleged "update" to Windows 10. At one point I lost over 3 hours' of painstaking, delicate, cut-and-try work for no apparent reason. Luckily, I remembered most of the important details of the final result and so was able to recreate it in only an hour or so.
Anyhow, I have saved a link to the official .mtl file format and can frakking well hack the .mtl file if I need to do so.
Still do not know why the board here would not allow me to attach a 7,100Kb zip file for you. Oh well.

Think I figured it out. When I am (doing what I immodestly refer to as) modelling using Anim8or I like to have all my materials global so I can use them for multiple objects. Empirically I have determined that I need to have textures defined locally to the object I am exporting for their description to show up in the material description (.mtl) file.
