Title: New Clay-like Display Option in Build 1348
Post by: Steve on December 13, 2018, 09:09:27 pm
I just posted a new development release Build 1348 (http://www.anim8or.com/download/preview/files/animcl1348.zip) with an option to show models using a clay-like material. This can make it easier to see the shape, especially for complex colors or transparency, without needing to change the material. Just click on the little clay pot in the upper toolbar to toggle it on and off.

Front facing polygons are shown in beige and back facing ones in blue to make it easier to find errors in the direction of normals.

I like it.   :)

I haven't got a project on at the moment - busy on other stuff, hoping to do something in the new year.

It's nice having a toggle-able overriding material. Any chance we can customize the material attributes to our own preferences?

Good idea, Raxx. I'll see what I can do.

Raxx: Here's a build that let's you set the material used for the "clay" views:  Build 1349 (http://www.anim8or.com/download/preview/files/animcl1349.zip)

Make a global material and name it "clay" (all lower case) and Anim8or will use that instead of the default.

It also fixes a couple of Undo bus when you edit global materials, and a crash that can happen when you delete a global material that's still in use.

Works well! I wonder if it might be better to have it a program setting, with the material data saved in the registry so that it persists between all sessions new and old. Then, maybe pop up the dedicated material editor by right-clicking the clay button and/or a menu option.

Either way it's a nice feature, thanks!
