Hey
is it possible to make the background uneffected by mist ...
i want the background image to show more though if i strengthen the mist, it dissapears TOO much
any advice?

My advice would be to make a plane and texture it, then place it closer, therefore it wouldn't be effected as much by the fog. It could be a challenge to place it well, but that's what I'd do.
-
Yeah ... Or a dome with a sky texture ...
then place it over the whole set, although moving the camera around might be tricky ...
also, could you give me an example of a plane?
-
Well, I don't think a plane would be too good of an idea with animation in the scene. To make a plane you can simply make a cube, convert it to mesh, then delete all the points on one half of the cube, and you're left with a flat plane. The sky is a good idea though. What you could do is, create a dome, then apply a cubemap to the dome, and put it around the scene however large you want it to be. To make animation easier after you put the dome in the scene, select the dome and press 'h' which hides the object. Then when you're done animating and want to render, just press 'shift + h' or go 'edit>show all'

One problem with the dome idea is that as soon as you move the position of the camera the illusion is lost, because the depth of the sky should always be infinity. One way to fix this is to have the dome able to move with the camera, in terms of position, but not in terms of orientation. In other words, the dome's position should be set as a child of the camera, and the orientation set as a child of the "world". This way, the camera never gets closer to any side of the dome, and always remains central to it. The effect would be identical to an environment panorama but the fog problem would be solved.

ensoniq, i tried the movable-dome technique once, it worked in theory, but the problem was that my models were so big that they kept disappearing outside the dome. i could probably have got it working properly, but i was lazy and gave up instead :-\

Colclough, I have to admit I have never actually tried this, I just figured it would work in theory. I used a similar method, albeit on a much smaller scale, to animate the dashboard in my space sequence thing. I see what you mean, though. I suppose it would be a case of fiddling with sizes, the sky/horizon texture itself, and dome transparency. Nice to know that someone tried this, though, and the theory is more or less sound.

Well you could, instead of a plane, make a large sphere and slap on a texture.
-
for that i will require a huge cloud scape texture ...
any suiggestions??

the aforementioned cgtextures.com (http://www.cgtextures.com) has some 360-degree panoramic sky textures (follow the links 'Skies' and then 'Full Skies'), maybe that'd be what you're looking for? i haven't used them myself (yet), but i'm thinking i prob. will, before too long...

ah kl yea ive tried tht already
i have found a solution ... using Terragen. It generates fantadtic terrains as well as sky scapes etc :)

Instead of a UV map try an env map out of experimentation. ???
