Is there any way to set the default font used for text in the Object Editor?
Is there any way to set defaults for the other fields in the Text popup menu?
I want to have about a dozen 3D text strings around an object. Unfortunately, whenever I select the Text tool it defaults to Ariel. The font I'd prefer is quite a ways down in the list of fonts shown by the Text popup, Scrolling through that list for each string can be rather awkward and time consuming.
I couldn't find any mention of setting default values for any of the fields of the Text popup in the online documentation for the Object Editor.
It'd be really nice if the values one types into the Text popup menu (other than the position) were remembered for use for the next time.

No, there currently isn't anyway to do this. It's a good idea, though. I'll see what I can do.

You probably already thought about it but
how about editing the file directly.

Steve,
Thanks!
Claude,
Do you mean the .an8 model file? Actually I hadn't. Thanks for the suggestion!

Yes.That's what I meant. Don't forget to backup your file first.

You can also make one Text object with the font that you want and copy/paste that, then edit the characters.

Funny.Tried that last night.Couldn't make it
work.This morning,it does.Hope it's because
it was late. ???

selden: give Build v1.01.1306 (http://www.anim8or.com/download/preview/files/animcl1306.zip) a try. It let's you set a default font that is saved with the project. To set the default double-click on a Text object in the Object editor, set the font, size, bold, italic to the default, and check the "DefaultFont" check-box. This will be used as the default for all new Text objects in the project.
Build v1.01.1306 also uses a new Arc Rotate by default but you can disable it. See this topic (http://www.anim8or.com/smf/index.php/topic,5644.0.html) for details.

Oops. Without making any changes (i.e. with the new Arc Rotate still the default), "Anim8or has stopped working" when I selected/opened an existing .an8 file which contains (among other things) multiple text strings, although the latter might be a red herring.
I've set Anim8or to be the default program used to open .an8 files.
In contrast, running Anim8or first, then using its "File -> Open..." menu item to open the same .an8 file doesn't crash.
A zip containing clipper.an8 is attached.

However, selecting the default font works great! Thanks!

OK I'll take a look at it.

I found the problem and am working on a solution. Stay tuned to this channel ...

selden: give Build v1.01.1307 (http://www.anim8or.com/download/preview/files/animcl1307.zip) fixes the crash when you load a file with Text objects. It would crash when you:
1) click on the file name in the windows file explorer,
2) have File->Configure->StartInPrevious checked, or
3) run Anim8or from a command line with that .an8 file for an argument.

Steve,
Thanks!
It doesn't crash and it remembers the default font.
