Title: small island scene
Post by: 3D Joe Wiltshire on April 09, 2008, 06:59:22 pm
well i play this online game called roblox, don't judge it before you've tried it though, i know it sounds a bit dweeby, but there is a competition to win some hats (inside the game) and any people taking part get a free one, the best entries get a place in a gallery and some extra currency in the game, well i made mine on anim8or, it was really useful for knocking up a good quality scene on this occasion:

An obnoxiously sunny beach, some unlucky soul found himself washed up with nought but sand, sea, a deckchair and a glass of soda on a wooden crate, i wonder where he is?

hopefully it'll win one of the main prizes, since it's one of the only non googled pictures uploaded :P
sorry the image here is a little small, file size had to be made smaller T_T

Good Luck for the competetion....

Even though you mentioned about the image size.. if u could render a higher resolution picture and upload it, we could get the sunny feelings of the beach a little better.... ;)

That's pretty nice. An idea would to be make the sand a noisy bumbpmap, and than scale the bumpmap in anim8or down to a small size. That way it will look like sound
otherwise, nice! :)

ok, i uploaded a large version to ImageShack
there is a bumpmap on the sand, but i guess i thought it looked pretty good at the size it is, that and my pc was going really slow, it was surprisingly high poly, or mabye it was just my pc
anyway, here is the image, it might take a while to load though

just wondering... looks like your sea is opaque?  if you modelled some sand going underneath the water, and modelled the bottom half of the shark/dolphin (if you haven't already done that), then made the water translucent, that'd just give it that extra edge.  it's a good pic, but just imho, a bit of transparency on the ocean surface would make it even better :)

yeah, i admit that the sea was a bit rushed, but the shark thing is a full shape, the sea is just a texture added to the diffuse

I agree with thecolclough on the sea being opaque, it would be nicer if there was some see-through, but I love your palm trees.
