I'm wondering whether it makes a difference or not to decrease the size of a large environment and objects to stay within draw distance and therefor require adjustments to the camera parameters, OR is it better to stay with set camera perimeters and keep the large environment large and therefore adjust draw distance (clipping)?...... I hope that makes sense....... In other words if I make a huge environment small, then I have Giant cameras, but my making the cameras smaller (decreasing z-near, increasing z-fare), I get the feeling it's the same thing as increasing clipping distance.

This whole sizing thing is becoming important to me the larger my projects get, and the more resources I have. What I found is when making a large environment, or any complex environment/building or whatever adjusting size for Everything becomes a nuisance. For example, making a forest in "scene mode" with 20 different trees that are already sized relative to the environment is allot quicker then adding 20 different objects to a scene where all objects including cameras might need adjusted.
Keeping everything relative to scene presets seems very valuable in the long run. If your like me, then with every object you are essentially building a database for your future projects also.... This is a common theme I come to with every project-workflow, streamlining makes the most of everything, including fun factor! So having good habits helps the experience.
So my plan is to keep camera presets where I can and increase draw distance, instead of making everything smaller.

yep, that's what i'd do too. at least in most cases.

Tip of the day:
Instead of using Loading loads of trees in Scene mode, ( ie:build/add object - I used to do this once!).Just make your whole forest in Object mode, scale it how you want it, then, add the whole object created into the scene. Works well with anything static.

Kreator, I always had better luck with shadows with more/separate objects. BUT with a forest full of PNGs that might not matter.....
-
Two things would be nice for this: 1) being able to set the scale of the Anim8or units in object mode to cm/m/km or inches/feet/miles 2) being able to set the xyz scale of an object in scene mode.
-
I like the idea of changing the measuring units, that would be very helpful... On another note, back to what Kreator mentioned, I have had a couple times where I wished I could export everything in a scene as a combined single object-just to play around with....

So apparently ruler isn't available in scene mode, or is there some other?.... What I'm trying to figure out is the "cad" measurements for the camera lens in scene mode..just as referenc.. In the picture below is a box that is 200 square at the end, a relative estimate with this is fine, no big deal. Are these cad measurements standard with something? I was wondering because am doing a project that I would like printed and noticed that cad has a measurment settings to adjust units... If I have ALLOT to learn on this subject that is fine too.. ::) ;D

I calculate in 4mm scale for my 00 scale locomotives so I set my grid as 4 instead of 10. the grid is then in 4mm scale which works for me. 8)
