Title: Need a solution
Post by: davdud101 on December 26, 2015, 10:18:47 am
Hey, guys. I sure some of you guys have noticed that I tend to sort of pop my head in every couple of months, and that's only because I'm currently living in Norway with only access to a Macbook, so I can't run Anim8or at all (not with Bootcamp, at least, and I don't have Parallels). I'm looking and digging for a solution because I'd like to get back into it.

How do you Mac-owners make use of Anim8or? Maybe there's a cheap, small computing device like Raspberry Pi that I can run maybe Windows XP on and get Anim8or going?

Also: Is it appropriate to post something like this? I wish the forum had a few more places to post things that are slightly off-topic like this.

If you can't run Bootcamp or Parallels, and are willing to spend money to run Anim8or anyway, you can try the CrossOver (https://www.codeweavers.com/products/crossover-mac) free trial and see if it runs Anim8or.

Otherwise you can give online virtualization a try. Cameyo (http://www.cameyo.com/) runs windows apps on their server and lets you work with them in the browser or using their app. It may be a bit slow and delayed though, especially if you don't have a super-fly broadband speed.

I made an Anim8or package and put it online that you can play right in your browser: https://online.cameyo.com/apps/635867432143792552/play

By the way, it's also a way to run Anim8or on your smartphone or tablet ;)

Hey Raxx, That is very cool! There is a slight delay but Anim8or in a browser is amazing.

Davdud101:  I often run Anim8or on Virtualbox with Windows 8 on my iMac. Virtualbox is similar to Parallels and Fusion, but a bit tricky to install and configure. Virtualbox is free, but you would still need a copy of Windows. For more intense Anim8ing, I use Bootcamp and the same Windows partition in order to have the benefit of better graphics drivers. Early on, I tried Wine and Crossover but had no luck with either.
