Title: Best way to get an aerial view of an island/continent?

I'm trying to get an aerial view of the hoenn region. I've tried taking a picture and tracing it, then extruding it into a solid object and working from there, but because of the sheer number of points, the extrude command won't cooperate.

You tried tracing with splines, you mean? Try making a general shape with the Add Edge tool (make a new edge by holding shift--only for the first edge, then trace around it with new edges), fill holes, then use the cut tool and other tools to detail it further.

Alternatively, you could paint over it in a paint program, converting it into a height map, then use something like Terranim8or (http://www.anim8or.com/smf/index.php/topic,4936.msg35947.html#msg35947) to make terrain from it.

I traced the whole thing, but the fill holes command wouldn't work.

Also, what exactly is Terranim8or?

I tried searching for it on ask.com, but it looks like all the articles on it have been taken down.

Yeah, I saw the file, but what does it do?

I'd rather know what it is before I take another graveyard shift to download it.

Leslies Terranim8or site has closed, Terranim8or 6 allows you to create a terrain from a heightmap. It`ll also create smoke, Fire, Rain, Snow, Particle effects , Animated Backgrounds theres not much it cannot do.

Worth The download at least the softwares free

Definitely. I've been wondering how I was gonna make some of those effects. Thanks.
